Executive Summary:
In March 2017 ECOBOND® Paint LLC joined into a strategic alliance with Market Actives, LLC to add Bitrex® to our ECOBOND® formula to reduce accidental ingestion of potentially harmful materials. Bitrex® is the bitterest substance known to man. This clever safety ingredient is used globally to help protect children from consuming potentially hazardous products. Manufacturers of all kinds of products add Bitrex® to their products to reduce the risk of accidental ingestion.
The President of Market Actives, based in Portland, Oregon, is Mitch Tracy. He has spent 30 years developing the US market for Bitrex; helping protect both children’s health and national brand’s reputations. The Bitrex bitter safety additive is credited with saving the lives of children and pets while protecting and enhancing the safety of thousands of consumer products.
After working with ECOBOND® LeadDefender® and supplying Bitrex® for our formula for several years Mitch was very familiar with its effectiveness and the scope of lead-paint protection projects. Originally from Connecticut, he and his brother Scott were presented with an opportunity to restore a piece of local history in Pomfret, CT. Originally known as “The Jubilee Hall” of the Grand Army of the Republic (Civil War Veterans). It was converted to the “Wolf Den Grange Hall” in the early 1900s and then pretty much abandoned in 1959.
Of course, they discovered lead paint was present and turned to ECOBOND® - LeadDefender® to treat the lead paint with our Patented Paint-it-on Leave-it-on® Formula!
Story from Mitch & Scott Tracy:
“We have a fun story of community, abandonment, redemption, and family history going on.
Pomfret, Connecticut is where 3 generations of our ancestors lived, going back to great, great, great, great, great, great, great Grandpa Zebidiah (G4-G7 are buried within a mile). The family moved to Norwich, then NYC, then Fairfield County where we grew up in Stamford and Greenwich.
First, in Pomfret, we lucked into buying an old farmhouse built in 1700. Yup, 320 years old. We are pretty sure at least one of the great grandparents had a beer and meal here! That old farmhouse is actually the next EcoBond project.
Then we stumbled on and bought the “Jubilee Hall”, or more commonly known now as the "Wolf Den Grange Hall." Turns out, in 1881 Grand Army of the Republic (Civil War Vets) built their "Jubilee Hall" a 2,400 SF building at 515 Hampton Rd Pomfret CT. Upstairs is 1200 sf lecture hall/dance hall with a stage, downstairs- meeting rooms, and a large kitchen.
In 1881 the GAP Jubilee Hall operated as a social, agricultural, and educational center for 30+ years. In 1912 or so the Wolf Den Grange took over the building with the advent of the Grange Movement in the USA with similar community endeavors. In 1959 the Wolf Den Grange moved to another facility and the building was abandoned. An antique business tries and fails, it becomes junk storage and sits empty for as long as most people can remember. Folks have driven by so many times they don't even see it anymore.
We now are in the process of renovating the property and using ECOBOND® - LeadDefender® to treat the lead paint and to restore this wonderful old building to use as an art and community meeting space.
Why ECOBOND® - LeadDefender® Was Selected Over Other Available Products:
Statement from Bitrex®:
“In March 2017 we partnered with ECOBOND® Paint in the USA to add Bitrex® to their protective paint. The Ecobond paint is used to cover and neutralize old lead paint. The bitter taste of Bitrex is an extra layer of defense to keep babies and children from licking, chewing, or ingesting paint that might have been covered in lead paint. It was a reminder of how dangerous lead paint is. The World Health Organisation estimates that around the world 853,000 people a year die from the effects of lead poisoning.”
