Today’s contractor and homeowner deals with lead based paint during renovation, repair, remodeling, or demolition; the trick is finding the best solution – one that provides a safer work environment, is cost-effective, easy to use, and eco-friendly. That solution is ECOBOND®!

1.  Who needs ECOBOND®?

Parents, pregnant women, remodelers, contractors, demolition companies, schools, window and door companies, painters and antique refinishers, just to name a few! Lead is a highly toxic metal and it is all around us. Lead was used for many years in paints and other products found in and around our homes. Lead-based paint and lead contaminated dust are the main sources of exposure for lead in U.S. children. Lead-based paints were banned for use in housing in 1978. There is a good chance that any home, building, school or day care center built before 1978 contains some lead paint.

One million children are affected by lead poisoning, but when you know what to look for and what to do, lead poisoning is entirely preventable.

2.  Why should I use ECOBOND®, won’t a normal paint do the same thing?

No. A common misconception is painting over lead based paint takes care of the problem. Don’t just cover it – TREAT it! Using ECOBOND® LBP effectively TREATS the lead in lead dust and lead based paint changing the chemical composition of lead into a non-hazardous, non-leachable state. In addition, it is fire, mold, and mildew resistant; and reduces the bio-accessibility of lead in lead paint by up to 75%.

3.  How is ECOBOND® easy and less expensive to use?

As a typical acrylic latex paint/primer the product is easily applied with brush, roller or sprayer, typically at coverage of 6-8 wet mil’s providing average coverage of 300 sq ft per gal. Homeowners, paint and residential/ commercial/ industrial construction contractors nationwide have saved money and won more work through the simple one step use.

4.  How does the product “Take the Hazard’s out of lead dust and lead based paint”?

As America’s #1 lead treatment product, it is formulated and patented to not only seal peeling lead paint and lead dust in-place, but it also uniquely treats the lead dust and lead in lead based paint to make it non-hazardous. This specialty formula contains softeners and penetrators to support interaction and adhesion with underlying lead based paint.

5.  Is ECOBOND® LBP safe to use?

Yes. First the product provides a robust solution for virtually any lead paint challenge by sealing and treating lead dust and lead in lead paint. ECOBOND® formula is a low VOC, non-flammable water based acrylic latex providing homeowners, workers, contractor’s and engineers with a safe alternative to other harsh chemical lead abatement and renovation products; ECOBOND®is fire, mold, and mildew resistant.

6.  Are there other similar products available?

No. ECOBOND® is a unique patented product that provides a multi-use lead paint hazards solution. Designed to “Paint it on & Leave it on” it requires no removal step common with strippers and unlike expensive epoxy encapsulates, it contains no harmful solvents, has a high coverage rate and provides for the treatment of lead in the LBP.

7.  Is ECOBOND® EPA tested or approved?

Unfortunately EPA does not provide endorsements for lead products. However, the active ingredient in the product has been previously specified and used nationwide in all 50 states for the treatment of lead in millions of tons of lead contaminated material. ECOBOND®'s ability to treat lead to EPA standards has been successfully tested in over ten thousand samples as well as its ability to seal and treat lead dust during renovation, demolition or other abatement tasks.

8.  Is ECOBOND® AGENCY tested or approved?

Yes. ECOBOND® is widely used by commercial and residential contractors in all 50 states nationwide and has been approved and is specified by many government agencies such as DOD, USACE, NOAA, FAA, and Colorado DOT, just to name a few.

9.  What are typical residential, commercial and industrial applications for ECOBOND®?

As a patented multi-use product many uses involve the unique “Paint it on-Leave it on” feature. RRP contractors and homeowners paint it on to seal and treat lead dust/chipping paint as an interim encapsulation. Interior: The product is fully tintable top coat or can be used as a primer (accepts most topcoats). Exterior: use as a primer (accepts most top coats) Renovation and demolition contractors apply as a treatment and sealant to prevent the spread of lead dust and to ensure that the lead is treated prior to removal, thus avoiding creating a hazardous waste. It has also been used in conjunction with lead paint removal methods.

10.  Does ECOBOND® penetrate layers of paint to make lead paint left in place safe?

Yes! ECOBOND® LBP is specially formulated with advanced softeners and penetrators to penetrate layers of paint.

11.  Do I need to remove all of the lead paint from my home or school if they were built before 1978?

No. ECOBOND®'s specially formulated and is unique as a “Paint it on, Leave it on” solution. Avoid disturbing surfaces that contain lead paint whenever possible, and always use ECOBOND® LBP and safe-lead practices (www.epa.gov/lead) whenever lead paint is disturbed through remodeling, repair or renovations.
